Title: ad hic
Date: December 5, 2006
Summary: Steve develops a formula against hiccups
"Fin" style: Sitting Scorpion.
Number of panels: 12
Steve: "Hic! Hic! Hic! Hic! Hic! Hic!"
Beaver: "Tee Hee! Looks like someone has a case of the hiccoughs!"
Beaver: "Here - drink out of the wrong side of this glass. That will get rid of them."
Steve: "Superstitious nonsense! Hic! I'll cure them the scientific way Hic!: With science! Hic!"
Steve: "At last! Hic! The formula is complete!"
Steve: "But there's only Hic! one way to find out if it works... Hic!"
Steve GLUK GLUK GLUKs the formula.
Steve falls into a blue and purple spiral, out of which smiling yellow teacups and teapots emerge.
Steve wakes up with some (imaginary) teacups and -pots still floating around his head.
Steve: "What happened ..."
Steve: "My hiccoughs... They're gone!"
Steve: "It works! This miracle cure will change the world forever! And best of all it has absolutely no side-effects!"
The shot shows Beaver sitting on the couch in the background.
Beaver: "But Steve, you've been unconscious for three days..."
Steve: "A minor detail..."
Beaver: "... and you've grown some sort of grotesque exoskeleton ...."
The shot reveals that Steve has now grown... some sort of a grotesque exoskeleton! It's somewhat similar to that of a scorpion, especially the tail with a stinger at the end.
Steve: "Hmm... Maybe the formula could use a little work..."
Steve stares at his stinger. Beaver sits quietly on the couch, not paying attention to him.
Steve SIT.'s down on the sofa next to Beaver, deforming the sofa and pushing Beaver aside.
Beaver: "I think we might need a bigger sofa."
Steve: (or more accurately some lower part of his new exoskeleton) "Hic"
- In the end, Steve's concotion didn't even cure his hiccoughs, as evidenced in the last panel.
- The title of the comic, "ad hic", is a reference to the Latin phrase "ad hoc", which means "for this [purpose]".
