Title: baking up trouble - part 5
Date: June 5, 2006
Number of panels: 6
Beaver: "OK Steve, you'd better let me do the talking... Seers are notoriously sensitive and I don't want you upsetting him...
Beaver: "Oh wise and venerable seer, whose knowledge is as vast as the universe, we have travelled far and braved many dangers to seek your counsel..."
The Archaeopteryx SWOOP!s down toward Steve with a kaaa! Kaaa!
Beaver: "A great darkness has fallen upon us: a fell daemon born in the fireiest fires of hell has beset our kitchen and is laying waste to our biscuits. Hobnobs and jammy dodgers are suffering even as we speak. Please advise us in our hour of need!"
The Archaeopteryx proceeds to attack Steve will a bite! And a kaaa! Kaaa!
The Archaeopteryx stands triumphant on top of a dazed Steve
The Archaeopteryx: "Fear not brave traveller, for an end to your woe is in sight. Your solution lies within an ancient grimoire of arcane power: page 312 of the Delia Smith cook book."
Beaver has his hand to his chin pondering the wisdom of the Archaeopteryx
Beaver reads his copy of the Delia Smith cookbook
Beaver: "Luckily I always keep a copy handy... Let's see now... 310...311...312... Of course!"
The Archaeopteryx scares Steve with a KAAA! KAAA!
Beaver is reading the recipe for a Quiche of Banishment. (On the opposite page is the recipe for the Tiramisu of Amelioration.)
Beaver: "... The egg-based solution to our problems has been staring us in the face all along! Steve, stop fooling around, we have baking to do!"
Steve (off stage): "No! Not the eyes! Augh!"
- The symbol on the Quiche of Banishment is the same as the one on Beaver's calendar.
- The scene where Steve is being tormented by a magical creature whilst Beaver stands by calmly, occupied with something else, is later reversed in Comic 189 with Beaver being the tormentee. Mere coincidence or Steve's subtle, sadistic revenge?
- Delia Smith is a famous English chef and author of many best-selling recipe books.
