Steve retrieves a Fossilization Ray from the Time-o-Pod, claiming it to be his latest invention. Since Beaver and Steve flee in a different time machine than the one they came in, the ray gun is actually stolen from someone in the future, just like so many of Steve's other "inventions".

Steve, whose exact species is unknown (though it has been speculated that he may be a dinosaur or lizard) is the co-protagonist of the strip. Steve possesses superior intelligence and technical expertise, and has been known to create [[Emotibot|robots]], [[time machine]]s and other advanced technological devices. However, Steve's inventions rarely function as planned, often leading to disastrous results. Furthermore, [[Comic 232]] implies that in most cases, Steve never really invented any of those things and just stole them from the future. To where he probably got by using a stolen time machine.

Steve is more spontaneous than his companion, [[Beaver]], and is the source of much of the "unfeasibility" of their adventures. Somehow, Steve's mere presence attracts strange creatures such as sentient [[turnips]], the [[Shoe Goblin]], [[Satan]], and [[:Category:Fairies|various fairies]].

Steve is generally friendly and well-meaning, with a few exceptions (often involving [[pandas]]). His amiable and overly-optimistic nature often renders him oblivious to the sinister intentions of others (see [[Comic 49]]).

Steve has also been known to enjoy childish games such as sitting at the front of a bus and pretending to drive as well as playing pirates which has lead to unfortunate accidents.

Turnips

Steve has had several unpleasant experiences involving turnips. The turnips, complete with arms, legs, and faces, will go to great lengths (including the use of chloroform, like in [[Comic 43]]) to be eaten by [[Steve]].

It all started when Steve met Timmy the Turnip in [[Comic 32]], who purportedly was rich in vitamins and minerals. When Steve refused to eat him, Timmy subdued him and forced his way into Steve's mouth.

He later attempted to take advantage of Steve's temporary zombification by disguising himself as a brain in [[Comic 110]], but failed.

He was also stranded in the middle of the ocean with Beaver and Steve in [[Comic 178]], after which he suddenly seemed to vanish mysteriously, only to reappear in [[Comic 182|the epilogue]] and reveal that he had been disguised as Beaver all along. This revelation was only made apparent after Timmy had been partially eaten by Steve.
