This wiki started off as an experiment, but now serves the basis for the BnS comic transcription search engine, available from the [http://www.beaverandsteve.com/archive.php archive page], as well as the side-project of translating the comics to [[:Category:Finnish|Finnish]], [[:Category:French|French]], [[:Category:Polish|Polish]], and [[:Category:Swedish|Swedish]] (and possibly to other languages as well, in the future).
Steve: (looking into the fridge) "I think the butter's off."
Beaver: "What makes you say that Steve?"

======Panel 2======

Steve holds the butter that has evolved into a lifeform, on a plate. It makes a "UGGL.." onomatopoeia.

======Panel 3======

Beaver POKE!'s the butter.
Butter: "Ai! Cut that out!"
Beaver: "Oh, hey, it can talk."

Butter: "Yes, I have learned much since I came to be in the cold belly of the dairy drawer, but I yearn for adventure, I dream of passing beyond the great portal and experiencing all the delights that the world beyond has to offer, I will..."

======Panel 5======

Steve STAB!'s the butter with a knife.
Butter: "AKKH! I return to you Mother Fridge... ...into... ...the light... *ug*"

======Panel 6======

Steve SPREAD!'s the butter on a slice of bread.
Beaver: "There's probably a moral to this."

======Panel 7======

Steve eats the bread with a CHOMF.

======Panel 8======

Steve spits out the butter with a BLEH!
Spread butter: "Forgive me!"
Beaver: "Maybe the moral is 'Clean out the fridge more often'"

==Fun Facts==

*This is the first BnS comic that comes with a moral to the story.

Well, sort of.

==References==

*The butter coming to life may be a reference (or parody, more like it) to the commonly used gag of filth coming to life in webcomic culture. Examples are [[Wikipedia:General Protection Fault (comic)#Fredrick_.22Fred.22_and_Persephone_Physarum.2C_the_Slime_Molds|Fred the Slime mold]] from [http://www.gpf-comics.com General Protection Fault], and [[Wikipedia:Dust puppy#Dust_Puppy|Dust Puppy]] from [http://www.userfriendly.org User Friendly].
======Panel 1======
Beaver wakes up in his bed and STRETCH!es out.
Beaver: "YAAAWN! Oh, what a lovely nap!"
Beaver: "Now it's time to get up and embrace the day!"

======Panel 2======

Beaver climbs out of his bed, to find his room full of futuristic devices. A computer screen states "UNMADE BED DETECTED!" with a WOOP WOOP. A small robot vaccuum cleaner operates an even smaller robot vaccuum cleaner, VMMing across the floor. A robot cat chases a robot mouse, and little cylindrical robots WHIRR! through the air. A Clothe-O-Tron sits against the wall, with a RoboLamp in the corner next to it, and the door is metal and futuristic as well.
Beaver: "Hmm... There seems to be something a little different about my room today.."

======Panel 3======

A Bed-Making Laser LOWER!s from the ceiling above the bed. A small robotic toaster walks in the corner of the room. The RoboLamp CLIK!s on, and the door SHOOK!s open as Steve walks in, with a long grey beard.
Steve: "Beaver! You're awake!"
Beaver: "What's going on Steve? What's happened to my room??"
Steve: "You mean you don't know...?"
Steve: "You've been in a coma Beaver..."

======Panel 4======

Closeup on Steve with Beaver in the background, and the robot cat in the corner.
Steve: "...for the last THOUSAND YEARS!"
Beaver: "Coo"
Robot Cat: "Mrew"

======Panel 5======

The Bed-Making Laser ZAP!s the bed offpanel, which goes KABOOM!, sending little pieces flying onto the panel. Beaver and Steve take no notice of this.
Beaver: "Well, I guess that explains all the robots, and your beard..."
Steve removes the beard.
Steve: "Yes, it is only with our futuristic technologies that we are able to replicate such convincing looking false beards in the future!"

======Panel 6======

The Bed-Making Laser RETRACTs into the ceiling, as a new bed RISE!s from the floor. The robotic vaccum cleaner VMMs over to clean up the mess.
Beaver: "Wait - Why do you call it the future when from your point of view it's actually the present?"
Steve: "In the future we always call the present the future!"
Beaver: "Ooh - So much has changed!"
[To be contd.]

==Fun Facts==

*The beds are numbered, as the one Beaver was sleeping on is 48211, and the new one is 48212. One must wonder when the other 48210 beds were used up, if Beaver was asleep in a coma the entire time.
*The Robo-lamp has eyes and what seems to be a mouth, when it turns itself on it looks happy much like the Pixie lamp in [[Comic 168]].
}}

The Shoe Goblin is, essentially, a [[Wikipedia:goblin|goblin]] obsessed with shoes. He ardently defends shoes whenever he comes against one who is disrespectful of them. Generally, this retribution is delivered in the form of [[SHOE|a shoeing of epic proportions]]. The shoe goblin is especially defensive of tiny shoes, as seen in [[Comic 34]].

The Shoe Goblin's obsession with shoes seems to run in the family; eons ago, his ancestors built [[The Master Shoe|a giant shoe]] and sealed it inside a shoe-themed temple.

In [[Comic 200]], [[James]] revealed the Shoe Goblin had at one point became addicted to [[Wikipedia:Odor Eaters|odor-eaters]], and was currently 'shoeless'. His situation had apparently improved eight comics later, as can be read [[#.27The_revenge_of_the_SHOE_GOBLIN.27_storyline|below]].

==Contact with [[Beaver]] and/or [[Steve]]==

The first mention of the Shoe Goblin (in [[Comic 11]]) seems to indicate that Beaver thinks he is one of Steve's imaginary friends, but this opinion seems to have changed by [[Comic 98]], when Beaver himself acknowledges fear of the Shoe Goblin.

Despite causing "[[A Shoeful of Trouble|a shoeful of trouble]]" to both Beaver and Steve nowadays, he was originally mainly Steve's arch-nemesis. The constant fear of shoeing has impacted Steve so much that he even has dreams about the Shoe Goblin, as seen in [[Comic 36]].

===='Rupert hits the town' storyline====

When the mutated [[Rupert T. Roach]] was destroying the city, Beaver and Steve had no choice but to join forces with the Shoe Goblin as shoes were a roach's greatest fear. It was at that point (in [[Comic 63]]) that the aforementioned Master Shoe was revealed. However, the Shoe Goblin still managed to double cross Beaver and Steve, fueling their mutual hatred even more. And as if that weren't enough, he was soon (in [[Comic 65]]) also proven to be cooperating with [[Pandas]].

[[Image:221_3.png|frame|left|Foiled again!]]

===='The revenge of the SHOE GOBLIN' storyline====

At one point (about 10 years before [[Comic 208]]) he was working on his [http://blog.myspace.com/shoegoblin Blog o' Shoes] late at night when some [[Steve|unknown fiend with unwashed hands]] had infected his keyboard, and by rubbing his eyes he contracted [[Wikipedia:conjunctivitis|conjunctivitis]]. To get his revenge, he spent the next ten years developing a space station to exactly fit and deliver a size 6 billion (and a half) shoe in order to shoe the [[Earth]]. His plan was, however, foiled by inconsistent footwear measurement systems, as can be seen on the picture on the left.

All would've been well if Steve hadn't then pushed the self-destruct button, destroying the space station and leaving the gigantic shoe adrift in space, soon to be sucked in the Earth's gravitational pull, causing the shoeing to take place after all and consequently wiping out human existance on the planet and allowing the [[Future Jellyfish]] to take over at some point in the following million years.
==Other facts==

*[[Emotibot]] is one of the Shoe Goblin's friends on [[Wikipedia:MySpace|MySpace]].
**As of December 9, 2006, the Shoe Goblin has a total of 117 friends there.
*Steve's doppelganger, [[Stu]], hides from the [[Fun Elf]] instead.
**The 'another familiar character' is [http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=107826911 Emotibot], who is friends with the Shoe Goblin on [[wikipedia:MySpace|MySpace]], even though they have never met in the comic.
*Curiously, Steve and the Shoe Goblin share a computer.
*The Shoe Goblin clearly was not really doing what he claims.
*The Shoe Goblin can take off his helmet in space?
*The Shoe Goblin not only has conjunctivitis, his left eye is also apparently lazy.

==References==

*[[Wikipedia:Conjunctivitis|Conjunctivitis]] (commonly called "pinkeye") is an inflammation of the conjunctiva (the outermost layer of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids), often due to infection. It may also be caused by adenoviruses.
Beaver and Steve are standing near a door, a sign above the door reads:
{{SignDiv|size=11|width=120|text=PLOT CONTINUES
Steve is wearing the Shoe-bot heads as shoes.
Beaver: "Come on Steve, stop playing with the severed heads of our enemies - The Shoe Goblin went this way!"
Steve: "Mm... Roomy..."
The severed Shoe-bot heads RRR...

======Panel 2======

Beaver: "Oh! Here he is!"
Shoe Goblin: "So, ye bested my mechanical minions did ye?"
Shoe Goblin: "Well ye're still too late to prevent me from completing the final phase o' my plan..."
Shoe Goblin: "My plan to..."

Shoe Goblin: "...'''SHOE THE EARTH!'''"
'Shoe Launch Port #1' is seen in the background, aimed for planet Earth as the Shoe Goblin reaches for a button that reads 'SHOE'.
The Earth has a happy, yet ignorant face.
Beaver: "GASP! The consequences of irresponsible footware retail become terrifyingly clear!"
[To be contd.]

==Fun Facts==

*The shoe used to shoe the earth appears smaller than the one the Shoe Goblin purchased earlier in this story arc.
*That button looks [[Comic 74|familiar]].
[To be contd.]

==Fun Facts==

*The Shoe Goblin refers to the shoe size 6 billion and a half without mentioning the half.
**This was an error on [[James Turner|James]]' part. To quote him, "Oh blast. How am I expected to remember things I wrote almost 3 months ago? I can't remember things I did three minutes ago half the time. What was I writing this post about again?" [http://www.beaverandsteve.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=9862#9862]
*It appears that, ten years ago, the Shoe Goblin already knew that Steve would use the computer with unwashed hands and therefore he would have conjunctivitis and want revenge.
*Interestingly, in the past, not only were shoe sizes different in the US and Europe (as now), but the number "billion" had a different meaning - its former meaning in Europe was one ''million'' million, not one ''thousand'' million.
*Why do every spaceship have a self destruct option? And what about the £20 penalty?
Beaver: "I have to admit this mutant alien is pretty good though."

======Panel 6======

Steve: "Actually that one was meant to be the Wolf-Man, it came out sort of... wrong..."
Beaver drops the blobby wolf-man while Steve is talking.
Beaver: "Ew!"
Blobby Wolf-Man SPLUT!s on the floor.
Blobby Wolf-Man: "Awooooogll"
Steve: "Genes are really fiddly you know."
Steve illustrates how small genes are with his fingers.
Mini Dracula GNAWs Beaver's tail.

======Panel 7======

Beaver holds up a finger in the 'Nuh-uh, you don't' gesture, with dissapointment lines beside his head towards Steve.
Mini Dracula POOFs into a bat, and the blobby wolf-man is nearly flat against the floor now.
Beaver: "This just goes to show: You shouldn't meddle with the (super)natural order."
Beaver: "No more genetically modified seasonal pets, ok Steve?"
Steve: "Ok Beaver..."

======Panel 8======

Steve walks to stage left, frowning. The edge of a cage can be seen.
Beaver (off-stage): "Ew, I have GM Wolfman all over my hands..."
Steve: "Sigh"

======Panel 9======

Steve holds a yellow bottle titled POISON. There is a red skull 'n bones below the name wearing a santa cap. In front of Steve is a cage full of GM Santa minies.
Steve: "Don't worry guys, it's time to sleep now..."
Santa Hallowe'eny: "Ho ho ho?"

==Fun Facts==

* Steve created a whole batch of santas, while there is only one real one. There are many vampires (though only one Dracula), 'wolfmen' and golems.
* The can of poison Steve holds in the ninth panel has a red skull 'n bones wearing a santa hat.
* Beaver was bitten on the tail by GM Dracula.
======Panel 1======

Beaver and Steve are walking through a prehistoric jungle, with a prehistoric Sun in the sky.
A small reptile sticks out its tongue and THPTT!s at Beaver.
Beaver: "Tell me again what we're doing here in the late [[Wikipedia:cretaceous|cretaceous]] era Steve..."
Steve: "We're here to answer once and for all a question that has baffled scientists for decades: ..."

======Panel 2======

Steve is surrounded by question marks and pictures depicting dinosaurs in various life-threatening situations, including being frozen in ice, wiped out by a meteor strike or abducted by aliens.
Steve: "... What really killed off the dinosaurs?"

======Panel 3======

Beaver and Steve are hiding behind some bushes when they discover a dinosaur in the wild.
Beaver: "Oh Look! There's one now!"
Steve: "Ah, a noble stegosaurus, most handsome of all the dinosaurs. Let's observe it and see if we can discover a clue to the cause of their extinction..."
The stegosaurus MONCHs away at some flowers, oblivious to the RUSTLE!s coming from the bushes around it.
Steve: "Look - Something's moving in the bushes over there..."
======Panel 4======

Several rotting dinosaurs CRAASH! out of the jungle.
Steve: "Zombie dinosaurs!"
A zombie brontosaurus takes a BITE! out of the stegosaurus.
Zombie T-Rex: "RARGH" (which appears to translate as: 'BRAAIINS'.)
Zombie Brachiosarus: "GRUAAH" (which translates to: 'GRUAAH'.)
Steve: "Just as I'd always suspected: the dinosaurs were wiped out by a zombie plague!"

======Panel 5======

Steve: "Just wait til the boys at the scientific society hear about this! Come on Beaver, lets get back to the time machine and we'll be sipping champagne before you can say 'We're surrounded by giant undead reptiles with an insatiable hunger for the flesh of the living'!"
Beaver: "But Steve, we're surrounded by giant undead reptiles with an insatiable hunger for the flesh of the living!"

======Panel 6======

Beaver and Steve are surrounded by zombie dinosaurs now.
Steve: "Do you have to always be so literal?"
[To be contd.]

==Fun Facts==

*The [[Wikipedia:stegosaurus|stegosaurus]] in this comic resembles Steve in many ways. It may be that Steve is related to this species of dinosaur. This assumes there are others of Steve's kind.
*Stegosauruses appear in the fossil record in the [[Wikipedia:Late Jurassic|Late Jurassic]] era (155-145 million years ago); the Late Cretaceous era was 100-66 million years ago.
*The Ancient Cretaceous word for "Braaaiins" is, apparently "Rargh". However, "Gruaah" has remained unchanged for 136 million years. This makes "Gruaah" a linguistic [[Wikipedia:cognate|cognate]] to modern English.
The Shoe Bear is one of [[Steve]]'s friends. He brings Steve a gift (from the size of the box, possibly a [[Recurring_Themes#Steve_and_toasters|toaster]]) for his birthday in [[Comic 288]].

==Fun facts==

A "SHOES - They are like HATS for FEET" poster also appeared in [[Comic 208]], but back then it wasn't The Shoe Bear wearing them.
*The hotel doesn't have a reception (or else Beaver & Steve would've checked in at it).
*The first things alive-made suitcases do is to "Hee Hee" and fly away, this suggest they like being alive and free at last.

Beaver and Steve is known for its frequent use of unusual onomatopoeias (similarly to [[Wikipedia:White Ninja|White Ninja]] and possibly some other comics).

[[Wikipedia:Onomatopoeia|Its page on Wikipedia]] defines it as such:

''In rhetoric, linguistics and poetry, onomatopoeia is a figure of speech that employs a word, or occasionally, a grouping of words, that imitates, echoes, or suggests the object it is describing, such as "bang", "click", "fizz", "hush" or "buzz", or animal noises such as "moo" or "quack" or "meow".''

Below here is a list of all the onomatopoeias used throughout the entire Beaver and Steve comic series. A better summary of all the onomatopoeias in this category ordered by the number of times they've been used, can be found [http://www.beaverandsteve.com/onomatop.php here].

To add an onomatopoeia article to this list, put '''<nowiki>[[Category:Onomatopoeias]]</nowiki>''' at the bottom of its source code. And make sure you spell it right ;)

The Dark Lord himself, Satan is a character whose path has collided with those of Beaver and Steve on many occasions.

Upon their first documented encounter way back in [[Comic 18]], he was thwarted by [[Steve]] when the latter took [[Satan's Trident]] and declared ''himself'' the "new Satan".

Although Steve seemed reluctant to give back his new trident and position, it appears the roles were back to normal (or as "normal" it can get in this unfeasible realm) as Satan appeared next in [[Comic 101]]. He remembered having seen Steve before, but was quickly shushed to prevent any attempts of establishing continuity.
In the guest-made (semi-canon) [[Comic 122]], he was seen as making soup with Beaver and Steve, but using a little too much fire and brimstone as Steve was running around on fire. Satan seemed a little sensitive about his cooking skills when Beaver pointed that out, though.

His next appearance was on [[Comic 139]], as he guarded (or was just hanging out near) the Gateway to Hell that was found in the basement of the burger restaurant where Beaver and Steve worked for a short period. Beaver believed the gateway was one of the several reasons contributing to the restaurant being the centre of all evil in the universe.

As if that weren't enough, he was also seen in [[Comic 175]], having just successfully tricked Steve with online [[Wikipedia:Lottery scam|Lottery scam]].

Steve later got a sort of revenge in [[Comic 207]], when he sells his ripped and torn soul to Satan under false pretenses, claiming it to be "as new", which it clearly wasn't.

==Fun facts==

He tends to start his opening sentences with "RAR!"
